Actually, we're not a bespoke Bookcase company. We offer a system of components available in variety of sizes which, when connected together, can make almost any size shelving, bookcase or dedicated storage unit. It could be said that we offer the biggest advantage of a bespoke design, but in addition, the generic application of the system means it can be applied to any environment, is easily altered, expanded, moved and dismantled.
We also keep all the items in stock, so you can often have a dedicated and custom fitting bookshelf in a matter of days rather than weeks or months. Finally the flexible yet generic nature means the cost is significantly lower than anything else you might compare it to, giving it extremely high value for your money. This doesn't mean their's any sacrifice to the quality, as each component in the system is made from natural, robust and visually pleasing solid wood. With due care, our bookshelves can last a lifetime.
The Bookcase System was perfected over 50 years ago and is the ultimate example of form following function. Its visual appearance has proven to be timeless and it can be found installed in thousands of homes as well as shops, schools, universities, commercial offices, and of course Libraries.
Bookshelf Sizes
A single unit bookcase is available in 294 sizes. That's before you consider connecting multiple 'bays' together which can quickly lead the permutations into the millions. Have a look at the sizes available for designing a single bay bookcase:
How High? Select from 8 heights: 48cm, 78cm, 118cm, 148cm, 178cm, 183cm, 218cm, 248cm.
How Wide? Select from 7 Widths: 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 60cm, 80cm, 100cm, 120cm.
How Deep? Select from 6 Depths: 14cm, 18cm, 24cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm.
Shelves
You can have as little or as many shelves as you want in each bay. Shelves are adjustable in 5cm increments all the way up and down the bay. Shelving does not have to be equally spaced, and can be positioned as per your needs. You do not even need to put a shelf at the top, or at the bottom. Each shelf is a solid 20mm thick and will comfortably carry over 100Kg! The shelves can be adjusted in seconds, and due to the unique way the shelving is attached, the more weight added to it, the sturdier the unit becomes.
The Material
Our bookcases are made from 100% solid Redwood sourced from sustainable and FSC certified Scandanavian forests. The timber is slow grown which means it is denser and stronger than some other Pines.
Our bookcases are not high turnover, cheap flat-packed furniture and therefore you will not find any chipboard, OSB, or even plywood or MDF. There is no veneer or any cheap sheet metal in sight. The quality and naturalness of the material leads to its longevity, and is always appreciated by our customers.
The shelves themselves are made from laminated strips 20mm thick and are dimensionally very stable as a result. All components are finely sanded and clear varsnished.
